Salvador – In the capital of Bahia it’s possible to come back to the ancient times of Brazilian History. Until 1763, Salvador was the capital of the Portuguese Crown in Americas, besides being the main port of the southern hemisphere until the eighteenth century. With approximately 50km of beaches and one third of the shores of the All Saints’ Bay, Salvador is the ideal location for relaxing seaside vacations and the practice of water sports.
This city is considered the cultural capital of Brazil. Its people are formed by Native Americans, Portuguese and Africans and present a unique ethnic and cultural diversity that stands out for its harmonious and democratic coexistence.
This singularity of each ethnic group that forms the city’s population creates original music, dance and many other artistic and cultural expressions.
Beaches - From the Coconut Coast, in the north, to the Whale Coast, in the far south, there are more than 40 tourism destinations and 300 beautiful beaches. With calm or agitated sea, deserted or with a super infra-structure, famous or almost unknown, Bahia’s beaches have been enchanting an increasing number of visitors, from all over the world. Besides contemplating the exquisite landscapes, the crystal clear waters, and the preserved Atlantic Forest, the tourists may also enjoy nautical sports of all kinds.
The most famous island in Bahia is Itaparica. The island is surrounded by coral reefs and great natural tide pools in the Atlantic Ocean.

In the south of Salvador we have the ‘Cocoa Coast’, known for the cocoa culture, which started in the 17th century, and for the chocolate production developed by Swiss immigrants. The native vegetation was preserved to protect the plantations from the sun.
More in south we have the ‘Dende Coast’, famous for the fluvial archipelago of Una River, with the islands of Tinharé, Boipeba and Cairu and for Camamu Bay. The ten unexplored islands with primitive vegetation and coconut groves are something indescribable. The most important cities here are Morro de São Paulo.
After that we have the ‘Discovery Coast’, which the famous city Porto Seguro is the birthplace of Brazil. Besides Brazil’s history, this place is known for the diferentes kinds of dance like “lambada” or "lambaeróbica". It is an ecological paradise that offers a mix of history, culture, art and natural wonders. There are 90km of beaches protected by coral reefs, rivers, streams, coconut groves and the "Mata Atlântica".
Other popular options are trips to Coroa Alta, Trancoso and Caraíva.
Finally the latest place of Bahia’s south Coast is ‘Whale Coast’ with the multitone cliffs and rare beauty integrate themselves with prairies, inviting warm-water mild beaches, natural pools, and coconut trees. The most important city is Prado very known for having been the place where the first contact between the Indians and the Portuguese took place, before they arrived at Porto Seguro, The downtown is wonderful, because the houses dated from the XVIII century.

Carnival – The biggest street festival in the world is the carnival in Salvador. In which, more than two million people in a year, dance and sing behind the “trios elétricos” in the two ‘carnival circuits’ or with the small typical carnival bands in Pelourinho.
Culture – Outside carnival, you have the chance to understand better Brazil’s culture, visiting many historical tours. Pelourinho is one of them, the point where the ancient slaves were dead. With its special architecture, it’s today transformed in a tourist point, in which you can enjoy many restaurants, visit seculars churches and buy souvenirs from the craftwork stores.
You can also go to the places where the ‘afro blocos’ essay for the carnival. In each of them it’s possible to learn the differences between the rhythms and traditions. Besides you can visit in Salvador several ‘capoeira’s schools’, take classes and learn how the slaves tried to protect themselves, transforming their traditional dance in a fight. Cuisine – In Bahia you can find a feast of colors and flavors. The ancient indigenous recipes and the spicy African dishes were added to the exquisite Portuguese royal cuisine. The “dendê oil” gives special flavor in every Bahia’s typical dishes, such as acarajé, abará, moquecas and mariscadas.
